This policy explains what personal information [Legal business name] (“CopperStocks”, “we”) collects through copperstocks.org, why, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies to you, other privacy laws such as the EU and UK GDPR.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you sign up for the copper brief. We use it only to send the newsletter.
- Usage information, only if you accept analytics cookies: pages viewed, how you arrived, approximate location (country or city), device and browser type. This is collected by Google Analytics with IP anonymisation turned on.
- Server logs kept by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, for security and to keep the site running: IP address, the page requested and the time. We do not use these to identify you.
We do not ask for, and do not want, any other personal information. The site has no accounts or log-ins.
Cookies
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Google Analytics loads only if you click Accept. If you click Decline, no analytics cookies are set. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page.
We also store a few small preferences in your browser (your light or dark theme, your cookie choice, and whether you dismissed the sign-up bar). These never leave your device.
The live price charts and quotes are provided by TradingView and load from TradingView's servers, which may set their own cookies. Their use is governed by TradingView's privacy policy. Company logos and publisher icons load from CEO.CA's and Google's servers.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run parts of the site for us:
- Mailchimp (Intuit), which stores the newsletter list and sends the emails.
- Google, for Google Analytics, if you have accepted it.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the site.
These providers may store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
How long we keep it
Your email address stays on the newsletter list until you unsubscribe, using the link in any email. Analytics data is kept for 14 months, then deleted by Google.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time. You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, by writing to us at the contact details below. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or your local privacy regulator.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
